Golf in Abu Dhabi

Just ten minutes drive from Abu Dhabi International Airport, 30 minutes from the capital and just over an hour from Dubai, the Abu Dhabi Golf Club has only been open for a few years but it has already proved a hit with golfers from all over the world. Carved out of the desert, it features two 18-hole courses designed by Peter Harradine. The two courses occupy 162 hectares and feature undulating terrain meandering through pockets of palms and ornamental trees, shrubs and seven saltwater lakes. An extensive irrigation system pumps in over 2,500,000 gallons of water to make golf in the desert a reality.
Specifically designed to be challenging yet fair, the par-72, 7204-yard Championship Course, completed in 1998 and now fully mature, is a natural inspiration with lush fairways, strategically placed bunkers and generous greens to challenge golfers whatever their handicap.
As a perfect complement to the Championship Course, the 18-hole (holes ten to 18 are floodlit), the par-72, 6498-yard Academy Course is most forgiving, making it ideal for all players and especially those new to the game.
Abu Dhabi Golf Club offers extensive practice facilities, including two 18-hole putting greens, chipping greens and practice bunkers - the perfect complement to the floodlit 350-metre, 7.5 hectare driving range. The range, the largest in the Gulf, has target greens and is sufficiently long that players may practice their driving at either end in complete safety.
The Abu Dhabi Golf Academy features a state-of-the-art training facility, including video analysis and undercover hitting areas. A variety of instructional programmes catering for all levels of players is offered, taught by hand-picked PGA professionals.
The clubhouse, a wonder of modern architecture, has been designed in the shape of a falcon swooping down on a gold ball, while the stylish interior projects an image of cool, sophisticated elegance, whilst retaining a relaxed 'club' feel.
